Injection mold is a tool used for molding plastic products. It injects molten plastic into the mold cavity and cools and hardens it at appropriate temperature and pressure, ultimately obtaining the required plastic products. The working principle of injection molding mainly includes the following steps:
1. Mold closure: Close the cavities of two molds to form a closed cavity. The mold is usually composed of an upper mold and a lower mold, and the contact surface between the upper mold and the lower mold is called the mold surface. During the process of closing the mold, it is necessary to ensure that the gap between the mold faces is uniform and well sealed to prevent plastic overflow or the generation of bubbles.
2. Injection: After the mold is closed, the melted plastic is injected into the mold cavity through the injection device from the nozzle. The injection device usually consists of an injection cylinder, a screw, and a heating device. The screw rotates inside the injection cylinder, pushing plastic particles from the feed inlet to the front end of the screw and melting them at high temperatures. As the screw advances, the melted plastic is pushed into the mold cavity until it fills the entire cavity.
3. Pressure maintaining: During the pressure maintaining stage, the injection device continues to apply a certain amount of pressure to ensure that the plastic fully fills the mold cavity and maintains a certain amount of pressure to prevent plastic from retracting. The length of pressure holding time depends on the type and thickness of the plastic, and usually takes several seconds to several minutes.
4. Cooling: After the injection and pressure holding stages, it is necessary to wait for the plastic to cool and harden in the mold cavity. The length of cooling time also depends on the type and thickness of the plastic, usually taking several tens of seconds to a few minutes. At this stage, the cooling system (such as water cooling) can be used to accelerate the cooling rate of plastics and improve production efficiency.
5. Mold opening: The final stage is the mold opening stage. After the plastic has completely cooled, the mold is opened, the upper and lower molds are separated, and the finished product is taken out. During the mold opening process, it is necessary to pay attention to avoiding damage to the product. Usually, an ejection device is used to eject the product from the mold cavity.
Through these steps, molten plastic can be injected into the mold cavity and cooled and hardened at appropriate temperature and pressure, ultimately obtaining the required plastic products.
