Fan blades
The efficiency of a radiator fan mainly depends on the diameter and axial length of the fan blades; Fan speed; Factors such as the shape of the fan blades. The blades of the CPU fan are usually between 6 and 12. Generally speaking, those with fewer blades are prone to generating higher wind pressure, but their operating noise is also higher; The opposite is true for those with more leaves.
Blade shape
There are sickle shaped, trapezoidal, and AVC patented folding edge shapes. Relatively speaking, the sickle shaped fan blades operate relatively smoothly and quietly, but the wind pressure they can generate is also relatively small; Trapezoidal fan blades are prone to generating significant wind pressure, but they also generate significant noise. The folding edge type is the most excellent design, which can generate high wind pressure while maintaining low noise, but is currently only used in AVC's own products. Currently, sickle shaped designs are commonly seen. A well-designed fan blade can produce a large output of air volume and pressure at low fan speeds, while also avoiding excessive wind noise. In addition to shape, the angle of blade inclination is also important and should be designed in accordance with the characteristics of the motor and the needs of the heat dissipation fins. Otherwise, simply pursuing a large blade inclination may result in high wind noise and low wind power.
Turbofan:
A turbofan can eliminate the wind blind zone in the axial part of a vertical shaft fan, making the wind force more uniform and improving heat dissipation efficiency.
Fan bearings
A good fan, in addition to its large air volume and high air pressure, its own reliability is quite important, among which the bearings used by the fan play a very important role. Generally, high-speed fans use ball bearings, while low-speed fans use low-cost self lubricating bearings. Each fan requires two bearings, some of which are labeled with the words "BS" and are single ball bearings. BS means "1 ball+1 sleep" and still contains the components of self lubricating bearings. More advanced than BS is the double ball bearing, also known as Two Balls. The following will explain various bearing forms.
Oil bearing
Oily bearings are sleeve bearings that use sliding friction, using lubricating oil as a lubricant and drag reducing agent. During initial use, the operating noise is low and the manufacturing cost is also low. However, this type of bearing is severely worn and has a significant difference in lifespan compared to ball bearings. Moreover, as this type of bearing is used for a long time, due to the use of oil seals (high-end oil seals, usually ordinary paper oil seals, are not possible for computer radiator products), the lubricating oil will gradually evaporate, and dust will also enter the bearings, causing problems such as slow fan speed and increased noise. In severe cases, eccentric fan vibration can also be caused by bearing wear. If these phenomena occur, either open the oil seal for refueling, or simply eliminate and purchase a new fan.
Ball bearing
Oily bearings are increasingly being abandoned by well-known manufacturers due to their short service life and the direct impact of internal oil control on the noise level during operation. Double ball bearings are now widely regarded by the industry as the preferred choice for high-quality radiator fans, with unparalleled operational stability but also high prices. As a cost-effective choice, the compromise solution of major manufacturers is to use single ball bearings.
one ball
Single ball bearings are an improvement on traditional oil sealed bearings. Its rotor and stator are lubricated with ball bearings and equipped with lubricating oil. It overcomes the problems of short service life and unstable operation of oil sealed bearings, while the cost increase is extremely limited. Single ball bearings absorb the advantages of oil sealed bearings and double ball bearings. The service life of the bearing has been increased to 40000 hours. After adding ball bearings, the operating noise has increased, but it is still smaller than that of double ball bearings.
Double ball bearing
Double ball bearings are relatively high-end bearings. There are several small steel balls in the bearing that revolve around the axis. When the fan or axis rotates, the steel balls follow suit. Because they are all spheres, the friction force is small and there is no problem of oil leakage. The advantage of a dual ball fan is that it has a longer lifespan, approximately 50000 to 100000 hours; Good anti-aging performance, suitable for fans with high speed. The disadvantage of double ball bearings is their high manufacturing cost and the highest noise at the same speed level (because the friction point of the ball bearing has increased by two times). Double ball wind bearings and hydraulic bearings have good sealing performance, especially double ball bearings. The double ball bearing is completely embedded in the fan, and the rotating part does not come into direct contact with the outside world. In a sealed environment, the working environment of the bearing is relatively stable. Therefore, almost all large diameter fans with a speed of 5000 rpm use double ball bearings. However, hydraulic bearings have a unique return oil circuit, so the possibility of lubricating oil leakage is relatively low.
rifle bearing
The representative manufacturer of Rifle Bearing technology is CoolerMaster, and CM has upgraded most of its traditional oil sealed bearing fans to Rifle Bearing. As an improvement of traditional oil sealed bearings, the Laifu bearing is made of wear-resistant materials into a high oil content hollow bearing, reducing the friction between the bearing and the shaft core. The Laifu bearing also has a reverse spiral groove and a shaft core with an oil baffle groove. When the fan is running, the oil will form a reverse flow, thereby avoiding oil loss and improving the bearing life. By adopting the above structure and components, the Laifu bearing fan greatly improves its oil and oil retention capacity, and reduces noise.
HYPRO bearing
The name Hypro bearing comes from HY (Hydrodynamic Wave) PRO (Oil protection system), a patented product of well-known radiator and fan design and manufacturing manufacturer ADDA. It is also made through multiple improvements on the basis of traditional oil bearing. Hypro and hydraulic bearings can be said to have achieved the same goal through different paths. Each design adopts some unique improvement measures, but the essence is both a circulating oil system, and their performance in various aspects is also basically equivalent. Usually, the product life can reach over 50000 hours.
Hydraulic bearings
Hydraulic bearings are improved on the basis of oil sealed bearings. Hydraulic bearings have larger oil storage space than oil sealed bearings and a unique loop type oil supply circuit. The working noise of the hydraulic bearing fan is significantly reduced, and its service life is also very long, reaching 40000 hours. But not all AVC radiators use hydraulic bearing fans. From this, it can be seen that hydraulic bearings are still essentially oil sealed bearings. But after improvement, the lifespan of this type of bearing has been greatly extended compared to ordinary oil sealed bearings, and it inherits the advantages of oil sealed bearings - low operating noise.
Nano bearings
Traditional oil sealed bearing fans have severe wear and tear during use, and their reliability is low when used for a long time. Nano bearings have effectively overcome this problem: ceramic bearing technology uses nanoscale polymer materials and special additives to fully integrate, and the bearing core is fully made of nanoscale zirconia powder using stamping and sintering processes. The crystal particles have decreased from the previous 60um to 0.3um, with characteristics such as robustness, smoothness, and wear resistance. Nano ceramic bearings (NCBs) have strong high-temperature resistance and are not easily volatile, which greatly extends the service life of fans. The properties of NCBs are similar to ceramics, and the smoother they are worn, the smoother they become. According to testing, the average service life of fans using nano ceramic bearings (NCB) is over 150000 hours.
